You raise some very important points -- but there is something that everyone misses -- the role of media and narratives.

Rush Limbaugh started dividing people back in the 80s with his radio program, Fox took it it TV and became more and more radical, and then the internet arrived with media producers and social media.

If you want to understand the impact of media on people, watch the documentary Brainwashing My Dad. Jen explains how much her Dad changed when he was being bombarded by radio programs and e-mails -- this was before social media.

And her documentary hit a nerve because at that point, media was already splitting up families.

The situation was bad even then -- but now it is much, much worse.

And media gets overlooked over all else.

You remove the media BS from the equation with its propaganda and manipulations and we do not nearly have a divided country. We would have people with different tendencies but we would not be living in two different worlds.
