The good thing is that many people understand that there is a problem.

It is just a matter of being able to bridge the gap between their understanding that there is a problem and your solution and doing it in a way that can be understood and digested easily — not saying that “easy and digestible” are good things but that is the environment we are in.

You have also frame the problem in a way that they understand and agree with so that when you move to your solution, it makes sense.

It is also important, if you want to have an impact, that you demonstrate a means to get there.

I sat in many a meeting with people who had pie in the sky ideas that we not doable even on the best day — forget the time and budget constraints we were dealing with. I have helped non profits who have the same issue. (I am not saying that this is the case with your idea.)

People think ideas are the “key” and the “thing”. They are frankly worthless until someone puts them into action because that is when you find out how workable the idea is real-world wise. The are all talk (like Pelosi right now) or they have ideas but no way to get there. As an example, decades ago someone came up with the idea of flying cars and though the idea was wonderful. Just think “no roads needed”…but there was a problem in how to get there…

Many great ideas have not been taken up either because the time was not right or the person did not know how to sell them or they were just no doable.

Having the idea is the first part.

The real work begins in getting it moved through…and for that you have the advantage of a public that recognizes there is a problem and does not know what to do which is good. You don’t have to help them understand the problem.

That said now you need to frame the problem in way that they can understand quickly, agree with, and see how your recommendation solves the problem and then see how it can be implemented.

These are the three basic things all people want and you need to be able to capture of the essence of each part in 100 easy to understand words or less (as a challenge). You will, of course, need a bigger document with details but the “jist” should be that easy to communicate. In many ways, you should be able to get it down to less. But 100 words on each part is a good start.
