The Advantage of Biden Stepping Aside

I need to remind people that Biden beat Trump by the smallest of margins in 2020 — the electoral vote is the one that matters and Biden won by less than 45,000 votes TOTAL spread over 3 states. (I understand that he won the popular vote by 7,059,526 — meaning he came very close to winning the popular vote by 7 million votes and still losing. )

This is critically important when looking at the situation we are facing now. If Biden won in an electoral college landslide, the options the Democrats are facing would be different.

I won’t go into the debate and the problems with his latest interview. Plenty of other people have done that.

I also won’t go into who should replace Biden because people need to do this based on research in the battleground states not my relatively uninformed opinion sitting in a deep blue state of CA.

So I am going to point out some advantages of Biden stepping aside that have not been discussed:

  1. He can focus on policy and running the government. A lot is going on and, frankly, he seems to be doing a better job running the country than campaigning. Use him where he is doing well.
  2. The GOP has campaigned against him for 4 years. Shifting to a new target may give the Dems a fresh chance to reset things depending on who they select.
  3. Last but not least, the GOP is going to pull all kinds of things around the election. They are going to try to steal the election. They are lawyered up and ready to go. If the Democratic contender wins the electoral college, they can contest the actions being taken by the GOP on their side AND if Joe steps aside, he can, thanks to the new powers the SC bestowed upon him as President, work things from his side too. Democrats would have two ways to fight back. Biden could use the DOJ and fight based on Civil Rights while the candidate can fight as the candidate. If Biden is running, the efforts to use the DOJ from a civil rights standpoint will look self-serving and like the weaponizing of government. This will give him distance.

These advantages need to be considered when looking at what he needs to do because they are significant and should play into the over all strategy adopted.

Disclaimer: I am assuming the Dems have a strategy. That may be a reach.
