Thank you for your response.

The availability of test kits is a big issue (accuracy is another but that is another story).

I can not speak for Canada but in the US, there has been a lack of leadership. If leadership stayed focused on this point, provided updates, and communicated how critical this was to our successful reopening, it could inspire an “all hands on deck” sort of problem-solving initiative to come up with solutions to problems that are limiting supply. Production for other industries could be mobilized to help this effort. We could get out-of-the-box workable solutions.

This would help us get things lined up better and faster.

But politicians have not been on point and some media here has reframed the conversation on the shut down as an attack on personal freedom so we have distractions that are not helping us get to a better path to open things up.

The recklessness and incompetence is amazing (and related). If we had competence, the pressure to do something reckless would be less. Everyone would understand what is happening and why so we could move forward together. But, since there is so much incompetence from a leadership standpoint, others are reframing the discussion and filling the void with unhelpful ideas.

I admit that I wrote this because I fully expect, when this goes bad, for people to shrug their shoulders and say “What else could we do? We could not wait for 18 months.” This is documentation that even at this point, it was clear that those were not our options and of what else we could have done. It is also evidence that the problems were foreseeable.

I did something similar accidentally when I wrote an article in January about the coronavirus and why it was something to keep an eye on. I said “Houston (the world) we have a problem”. I have shared it so many times when people try to say that he (our President) could not see it coming. I could see it coming and laid out why it was a problem back then. It is absolutely crazy to think that he did not have better and more information available to him.
